Gravel 3/8 & 3/4
Crushed 3/8-inch and 3/4-inch gravel for drives, drainage and base
Short answer
Bulk 3/8-inch and 3/4-inch crushed gravel in red, white and blue for driveways, drainage beds, pipe bedding and paver base. One cubic yard covers about 100 square feet at 3 inches deep and weighs roughly 1.4 tons.
Three-eighths gravel is the finer of the two: it compacts tighter, walks comfortably, and is the usual pick for pathways and topping a driveway. Three-quarter gravel drains harder and locks better, which makes it the standard for base layers, French drains and dry wells.
For a new gravel driveway, plan a 4-inch compacted base of 3/4 stone with a 2-inch wearing course on top.
