Short answer
Bulk and bagged road salt for Long Island parking lots, roadways and walks. Typical application is 200–400 lbs of rock salt per acre of pavement per event. Pickup or delivery all winter.
Rock salt (sodium chloride) is the volume workhorse of ice control: cheapest per ton and effective down to roughly 15–20°F. Below that, blend or switch to calcium or magnesium chloride.
Order early. Every Long Island supplier tightens up after the first real storm, and pricing follows availability. Contractors who stage salt in October are the ones still working in February.
